Egypt’s tourism sector kicked off 2026 with a high-impact promotional tour across China, capitalizing on its status as a “bucket-list” destination for Chinese travelers. From January 12 to 16, Dragon Trail International organized a three-city roadshow on behalf of the Egyptian Tourism Authority, with events in Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou bringing together key Egyptian suppliers and Chinese buyers to solidify partnerships for the year ahead.
Roadshow by the Numbers
The event featured a powerful delegation of 11 exhibitors, including the Egyptian Travel Agents Association (E.T.A.A.), national carrier Egypt Air, leading hospitality groups like Cairo Marriott Hotel and Jaz Hotel Group, and receptive tour operators.
The interest from the Chinese side was significant, with half-day sessions in each city drawing more than 200 professional buyers.

Tech-Powered Communication
A standout feature of this year’s roadshow was the integration of cutting-edge technology. To ensure seamless business discussions, all English-speaking sessions utilized Dragon Trail International’s proprietary real-time translation tool. This AI-driven solution allowed for fluid dialogue between Egyptian exhibitors and Chinese partners, removing language barriers during the 1,500+ business matchmaking meetings and presentations by the Egyptian Tourism Authority, Embassy of Egypt in Beijing, and the E.T.A.A.

A Thriving Market: Egypt’s Post-Pandemic Success
Egypt has maintained its position as the most popular African destination for Chinese tourists. Its recovery has been exceptionally fast, thanks in part to being among the first group of 20 countries permitted for outbound group tours when China reopened in 2023.
• 2025 Performance: Egypt welcomed 363,000 Chinese visitors, reflecting a year-on-year growth of approximately 21%.
• Holiday Dominance: In early 2025, Egypt ranked as Tuniu’s No. 4 top long-haul destination for Chinese New Year. It remained a top-10 favorite during the May Labor Day and October Golden Week holidays in 2025, as well as Chinese New Year 2026.
• Future Outlook: Recently honored as the “Most Promising Destination 2026” at an industry event in Shanghai, Egypt is targeting 30 million global visitors annually, with China remaining a primary strategic pillar.

More than 200 Chinese buyers attended roadshow events in Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou
There are currently 35 direct flights each week between China and Egypt, with 17 operated by Egypt Air – connecting Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Hangzhou to Cairo. China Southern, China Eastern, and Hainan Airlines also operate direct routes.
With its 70-year diplomatic history with China and the long-awaited full opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum, Egypt is well-positioned to remain a top choice for Chinese travelers seeking a blend of ancient heritage and modern luxury.
